My first conversation was with Bill. He looked a typical college student with his Gap sweatshirt and backpack. So I stopped him with the optical illusion tract. He loved it and cracked up. So he started to tell me how the brain works when it sees things like that. As soon as I could I swung the conversation to the spiritual by asking him “Why does mankind exist?”
Oh, that’s a deep question he said and he wasn’t too sure of the answer
Next I asked him “How did mankind get here?”. Again not much of an answer. You would think that people would have thought about that question with the theory of evolution and all. So I presented Law and Grace to him and we stood and talked for quite a while. He has some very good questions and he was asking genuinely and not out of sarcasm. Here were two of his questions.
1. How did Jesus start Christianity if He was a Jew?
2. Doesn’t the Bible say that God will forgive you if you ask him?
3. I don’t think anyone can control looking at someone with lust. Do you?
Next I ran into Daryl a Muslim. We had a knock down drag out intellectual sparing match. He was very well spoken and intelligent about his beliefs. Before I spoke of the Law I asked him, “If you were accused of murdering someone by slitting their throat and you asked the judge to forgive you because you were sorry, would he?
No way! He said. I then presented the Law to him. Muslims believe Moses to be a prophet so I took him through the Law of Moses. He said you are not a liar, thief, or murderer if you do these things only once. I didn’t ask him this question (I just thought of it) but I should have.
If I raped and killed your mother would you then consider me to be a murderer? (Harsh I know but it makes the point clear)
I left him with this – If you are right and I die then I might be ok because I’m a god-fearing man who does “good works”. But if you die and I’m right then you are in big trouble so believe the Gospel man!
I will be praying for him. I hope to run into him again soon. It was a great conversation…
