Halloween morning. When I parked the car downtown it was still very dark and yes, downright creepy. But soon enough as I looked around I saw plenty of people out and about so I cowardly opened the car door and stepped out to the sidewalk. I am a little bit lacking this morning I didn’t get any first names so please tolerate the “he said, she said” grammar. Soon I saw a towering 6’4 giant at the bus stop. I gave him a million dollar tract and we began to talk. As I was taking him through the Law I noticed his mouth was stopped (Romans 3:19). He was very taken by The Commandments and it truly had an effect on him. I could tell. He looked guilty because he knew he was. Next I spoke with a nice lady who said she wasn’t a “Christian but a Baptist”. “Well, ok”, I said let’s just talk for a bit anyway. She admitted it had been a long time since she read her Bible so I took her through the Law and repentance.
I then stopped a gentleman walking down the sidewalk and offered him a tract. As we began to talk he told me that he knew God answers his prayers because he was able to buy a new pair of shoes yesterday. My heart just sank. He said to me “What I really need is 31 cents so I can buy a cup of coffee”. I told him if you give me 5 minutes of your time I will give you every coin that is in my pocket. I remembered that morning before I left home I grabbed about 4 to 5 dollars worth of quarters. He agreed so we talked and talked about law, wrath, judgment, the cross, grace, forgiveness, and God’s love. He told me that I was a “real Christian” for doing this. He just doesn’t even know how unworthy I am to speak the Lord’s gospel. I will be praying for that man.
I did meet some opposition talking to the next fella. He said he was in AA and was right with God and didn’t need to talk to me. He told me “I appreciate what you are doing, but really I’m ok.” So I continued on….Finally I met with another man who told me he was going to Heaven because he asks for forgiveness. You should have seen his face when I said that wasn’t going to cut it. He was beginning to understand his sin when his bus pulled up. So I handed him a “Why Christianity?” tract and told him to read it along with Exodus 20 because everyone is guilty before God. What a great morning it was and I give God all the glory and honor!!
